New Buildings Set to Wed
On Tuesday, the developers of the site at 1133 West Georgia Street released a revised plan for their 52-floor (600 ft) building, which, if approved and completed, would become Vancouver's second tallest building after the Shangri-La.
The new design is considered to be a significant improvement over an earlier building plan that was submitted to and strongly criticized by Vancouver's urban design panel in March.
According to the Vancouver Sun, panel members on Thursday said the redesigned Arthur Erickson building is "stunning, evocative, and a beautiful 'feminine' match to the more masculine, slightly taller Shangri-La tower that will be built across the street".
Renderings of the Shangri-La building were also quoted as saying, "wow - 1133 has had an incredible makeover. Although I haven't met her yet, I gotta say, she looks hot."
Should the two new buildings wind up getting married, it is widely believed that the couple will adopt smaller buildings as children. The Shaw Tower will probably become the successful older son, and the Ritz is expected to grow up to be the graceful daughter.
Sadly, the squat Qube building will likely wind up as the red-headed step-child of the family, while the role of Grandpa will be filled by Erickson's old Macmillan Bloedel building.
