Throughout the Western world, real estate marketers share a common penchant for coming up with ridiculous new names for downtrodden neighborhoods, in an effort to give them some added cachet.
Things have gotten so out of hand that in New York, Curbed.com even held a contest to come up with the most inane name for a neighborhood there. (The winner: RAMBO - Right After the Manhattan Bridge Overpass).
Happily, Vancouver's marketers are also up to the task, as our own condo-pushers have recently dubbed the chunk of land that "bridges" Gastown and Yaletown as 'Crosstown'.
Know of any other silly neighborhood names? Feel free to add them to the comments below.
Reminds me of how the City of North Vancouver tried to rename the Lower Lonsdale area with a fresh new tag a few years ago. They sent surveys around with a a bunch of "hipper" choices, but residents basically demanded that the neighbourhood's name remain the same. Silliness.
