It's difficult to find a photo of Vancouver's newest Flatiron-style building on the web, so here's a snapshot of the original Flatiron (aka the Fuller Building) in New York. It was built in 1902, and is 22 storeys (285 feet) high.
Vancouver's latest take on this theme is actually named after its predessecor, and will rise at the corners of Melville, Pender and Jervis by 2007. The 28 storey (271 feet) building will have two suites per floor.
Renderings and more information about it can be found at www.flatironliving.com. There's some great ariel photos of both Vancouver and New York on the welcome page as well.
It's worth noting that Vancouver has a few other takes on the original Flatiron already. Our earliest version is Gastown's Hotel Europe (pictured below), which was built in 1908, and comes in at a much shorter 6 storeys.
More recently, some have suggested that the Shaw Tower is a modern version of the old Flatiron style, while the new Shangri-La shares the famous triangular shape as well. It's not as if every developer in Vancouver has set out to build a replica of the Flatiron, though. Rather, the need to fit their buildings within Vancouver's view cones has apparently played a role in the design choices as well.
