Continuing our look at developments along the northern shores of False Creek, new construction comes to a halt at Coopers Lookout, which is located on the west side of the Plaza of Nations site.
Concord Pacific has plans to put up one more building on the east side of the Plaza of Nations, though, after which it will complete the extension of Creekside Park. The park extension will finally cover the ashphalt no-man's land that sits between the Georgia Viaduct and False Creek, with Concord Pacific promising to build "9.5 acres of rolling parkland and tennis courts."
However, it may be another three to five years before that happens, much to the chagrin of Citygate residents.
According to this Development Permit Staff Committee Report from June 2005 (link to pdf), Concord Pacific has asked to relocate its presentation centre to the Creekside Park site for the next five years. As a means of accelerating the park development, and in response to pressure from nearby residents, the city is offering a renewable three-year agreement instead.
The exact timing of the Creekside Park extension won't be known until Concord Pacific submits its rezoning application for its final building sometime later this year. Hopefully they'll plan to complete it before 2010.
