The last major structure to be built at Coal Harbour has finally been approved, as the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel is now set to go up at the foot of Burrard Street, across from the new convention centre.
When it's completed in 2009, the building will come in at 44 storeys (458 feet), and will actually be the city's largest skyscraper, by square footage (800,000 square feet). It will combine the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel on the lower 25 floors with 195 live-work units on the top 19 floors.
Complementing its Burrard Landing companion, the Shaw Tower, the Fairmont Pacific Rim will have a public art display consisting of 'electronic lighting/imagery from the 3rd to 18th floors, while along Burrard street, it will have an electronic news and weather information display.
The building also has some environmental features, including green roofs on the 6th and 44th floors, as well as a geothermal heating system.
