The Carrall Street Greenway

The Carral Street Greenway is a proposed bike and pedestrian pathway that will stretch from Creekside Park on the False Creek Seawall to the 'future Burrard Inlet Seawall', thereby completing the 'Seaside Greenway Loop' that encircles downtown Vancouver.Carrall_street_greenway_2

According to the City of Vancouver's website, the greenway would link the Chinatown, Downtown Eastside, and Gastown neighbourhoods along a single streetscape, with common trees, signage, park benches and decorative street lighting (link to pdf).

Discussions on public art ideas for the streetscape were held this past February, where all kinds of cockamamie ideas were undoubtedly able to flourish. (This is, after all, Vancouver).

A new marketplace at the Woodwards development will be just one block west of Carrall Street, and if it gets the go-ahead, the proposed downtown streetcar would bring additional pedestrian traffic into the area as well.

Pigeon Park is also along the route, and it too will be refurbished, which should make it a nicer place for tourists, cylcists or strolling families to stop and pick up a bag of heroin on weekend afternoons.

This article from the Vancouver Courier reports that upon city council's approval of the project later this spring, construction could begin by the end of this year.
