On October 25th, the architects for the proposed 57-storey building at 1133 West Georgia (aka 1153 West Georgia) met with the Urban Design Panel to consider the latest design changes. Minutes of the meeting can be found here.
Among the other items discussed were changes to the site's designated public space, which was initially supposed to be an internal Palm Court, but has since been abandoned because it was proving to be too 'troublesome'.
In its place, an atrium has been proposed for the outdoor public plaza on West Georgia Street. No word on whether the previous idea to embed fibre-optic lights in the pavement (for night time illumination) has been retained.
The above rendering has been floating around for some time now, so we're not certain that this is what went before the Urban Design Panel. (Click on the picture for a larger version. For a look at the original model, click here).
It's also worth mentioning that Ritz-Carlton is rumoured to be the future operator of the 180-room hotel, which is slated to occupy the building's lower floors.
We'll be sure to post more info on the project once further details are released for the scheduled Development Permit Board meeting on December 18th.

Great site! As someone who has been interested in urban planning since I was a teenager growing up in Kingston Ontario in the 1980's I commend you for this site! I LOVE Vancouver (moved here from Japan in 1996) and think it is only on the cusp of REAL GREATNESS!!! Carry on with your good works!
