With the three-year countdown to the 2010 Winter Olympics now underway, we decided to take a look at how construction is coming along at those sites located between Vancouver and Whistler.
Our first stop is Cypress Mountain where, according to this VANOC press release, construction of the freestyle skiing venue was already completed last November. Work continues on the snowboarding facilities, which is scheduled to be completed by the fall of this year.
Among the $14.6 million that is being spent on the Cypress venues is the 'modification [and] expansion of existing terrain, new facilities, and...snowmaking capability.' The sites will also include two temporary stadiums, with seating for as many as 12,000 spectators.
In addition to four freestyle skiing events, six snowboarding events will be held at Cypress as well.
