After a summer hiatus, we're glad to say that Pacific Metropolis is once again back in business.
Without a doubt - the biggest story from while we were away was the late-August unveiling of the marketing campaign for 1133 West Georgia.
When we last left things, demolition work had begun in April on the unfinished building that had long-occupied the 1133 West Georgia site.
Besides unveiling the latest rendering of the new tower, it's now official - the Ritz Carlton hotel will be occupying what the developers are calling 'Vancouver's Turn' - a not-so-clever pun referencing the twisting form of what will be our city's second-tallest building.
We can only hope that Vancouverites will quickly begin to call it the Ritz, despite the fact that another condo tower has already laid claim to the same name. (Perhaps we can call this lesser structure the Mini Ritz or something...)
For the curious, the sales site for the Residences at the Ritz Carlton Vancouver is about to open on Thurlow street, across from the Shangri-La. It's an invitation-only kind of place, but regular folk are welcome to press their noses up against the glass.
Fortunately, all of us will eventually be able to gaze upon this sweet-looking building in a few years' time. Too bad it won't be ready for the Olympics though, as it's scheduled for completion in 2011. Nonetheless, the Ritz should be well on its way by the time the international media shows up in 2010.

Welcome back from the summer hiatus. I'm very pleased with how the designed for the Ritz-Carlton turned out. While I did like the flat-sided design from a year or so ago, I think the new design will be even better if they can pull off the curves well. Any idea of what the glass will be like? I've heard it will be mullion-free butt-glazed similar to One Wall Centre and the Carina and Callisto siblings in Coal Harbour.

i'm glad to see that this project is not being rushed like everyone else is doing. the quality of construction has suffered because of this race before 2010.

Oops, guess this lot is jinxed. The New York Times said that construction has halted.

True friendship multiplies the good in life and divides its evils. Strive to have friends, for life without friends is like life on a desert island.to find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune; to keep him is a blessing.
